Weight Loss
Many people who are striving for weight loss have turned to any number of fad diets that are available today. There is always some controversy with fad diets but they have been successful in helping some people lose actually achieve weight loss very quickly. There are a number of problems with fad diets, the first being related to your health. Many health professionals will advise against going on any type of fad diet. Some are so extreme that the result could be serious harm to your health. The second problem is once you have lost some weight and go back to living your normal routine, the weight is quickly added back on. And as you are well aware, it’s usually more weight put back on than you lost!
Not all diets are considered fad diets. Many doctors have designed diets that they feel will be the one correct way to reach a sustainable weight loss. How do you tell if a diet is a fad diet? For one thing they usually claim a substantial weight loss in a very short time. For example, if it tells you that you can lose twenty pounds in a few short days, I’d certainly be wary. A large weight loss in a short period can be very harmful to the body. Regardless of claims that are made people will still try anything because they have become desperate in their attempt to lose weight.
Probably the way most of us hear about fad diets is through the media. And this usually occurs because of a negative incident associated with the diet such as serious health issues or even a death related to the fad. Even though a particular diet may have negative press, it is this coverage that gives the fad diet more exposure. And more people will try it in spite of the health concerns.
People want to reach weight loss as quick as they can. Most of us would like to start a diet today and be at our desired weight tomorrow. A fad diet tells people that losing weight can be done quickly. And it can. But can it be done safely? Of course it can’t. Weight loss is a process that takes time, sometimes a long time. We all know that it takes longer than we like and that is where our persistence and will-power come into play.
To reach a desired weight loss we have to accept the time factor involved. It will happen but over time. And what happens if we go off track a day, or even a couple of days? Do we give up and quit? No, don’t quit. We all have the will-power to control our eating and be any weight we want. But we have to do it safely and be health conscious. If not we are only opening ourselves for failure or even worse. If weight loss is your desire then do it correctly and safely.
