Weight Loss Tips
When we start out to do something, many of us will ask others for some tips. We could be planning a vacation, doing some painting or just about anything. It is always nice to have a few tips from someone who has done it before. The same holds true for those of who want or need to lose some weight. We look at others who have been successful at it, and ask them for some weight loss tips. There are many different aspects to the issue of weight control. In this short article I will address the topic of stress and how we handle can affect our attempts to have weight loss.
Stress is one of those things that affects most of us at one time or another and we all handle it in different ways. The important thing is that we do not let stress have a controlling effect on us. Whether it’s working too many hours, shuffling your kids all over town for their activities, taking care of your household, or dealing with personal or family matters, stress can take its toll on you physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. But here are some simple weight loss tips you can utilize to combat stress, starting with the foods you eat.
For some people the little things in life can be stressful, while for others it is only a major event in our lives that triggers a response. When we are confronted with a stressful event avoiding caffeine and alcohol is a good start. Stimulants and depressants like these can both zap your energy and rob you of the fuel you need to successfully cope with tension. Sugary foods should also be avoided as well, as they cause your blood sugar levels to spike then dip rapidly, which can in turn make your energy levels spike and dip at the same rate.
The healthy foods we eat are much more amazing than most of us know. Some food can actually help our bodies fight or prevent certain illnesses. There are several super-foods out there that provide you with the energy and nutrition your body needs to keep stress in check. Asparagus, which is high in folic acid, can help level out your moods. Folic acid and vitamin B are key players in producing serotonin, a chemical that gets you into a good mood. This is one of the major weight loss tips as we all need as much serotonin we can get.
Another food that helps fight or reduce stress is one that many people try to avoid: red meat. Although we may hear negative things regarding red meat, it’s actually a wise dinner option for a stressed-out family. Beef’s high levels of iron, zinc and B vitamins not only help get you into a good mood, but help you stay there as well. Your local butcher can help you select lean cuts for the healthiest options.
Got milk? If you do and you are dealing with a stressful event, make sure you drink it. Milk is great for our bodies. it is full of calcium, protein, antioxidants, and vitamins B2 and B12, it helps strengthen bones and promotes healthy cell regeneration. Paired with a healthy whole-grain cereal choice in the morning, low-fat milk is a great way to start your day and arm yourself to do battle with the stressors that await you. Cottage cheese is also another great dairy choice, and when coupled with a fruit that’s high in vitamin C, it helps the body battle free radicals that run rampant during your most stressed periods.
Another good food to help defeat stress is the little snack that too many people don’t bother to eat. Whole almonds are an awesome choice when it comes to arming yourself against stress. They’re high in magnesium, zinc, as well as vitamins B2, C, and E and unsaturated fats, all which are great warriors against free radicals, which have been shown to cause cancers and heart disease.
The thing about getting tips from others is that we have the option to use them or just ignore them. But we all know that if we do what other successful people do, then it only stands to reason that we will be successful as well. These weight loss tips, if utilized, will help immensely in dealing with life stress as well as the stress we encounter in our battle to lose weight. It may help you hang in there one more day if we can get the stress related to weight loss under control.
