Try These Weight Loss Tips

The goal of most people is to be healthy, feel healthy and look healthy. And one of the most important things we can do to achieve all of these is to keep a healthy weight. Even though we all know how important our weight is to being healthy, and we have all tried someones weight loss tips, why do so many people have a weight problem? Is there any one reason that we can point to as the real reason for the almost epidemic proportions of overweight people today? If we set aside any and all medical reasons for being overweight, can we find the reasons for this problem? We could probably narrow things down, but for each individual there are unique reason for the overweight condition. To control the problem each individual has to find their own reasons and make the effort to correct them.

Let’s look at some more weight loss tips. Some you may have already seen or ever tried, and some may be new to you. Either way, you know deep down that if you want to lose weight you can. We all have the power to do it! One problem though is that too many people are looking for a quick fix. They want a weight loss miracle. There are no magic buttons. However there are plenty of weight loss tips available. Maybe the trick is to actually try some of the tips, but stick with it, don’t give up too soon.

A very important tip to follow is to reduce the amount of carbs you take into your body. If you can get control of this it will help you achieve some weight loss. One of the main functions of carbohydrates is that they turn into sugar and encourage your body to hold onto body weight and fat. Another of the many weight loss tips is to incorporate fruits and vegetables into your diet. They are good tasting, have fewer calories and have other health benefits.

One of the most overlooked weight loss tips, or maybe it is the most ignored, is to learn hoe to control your appetite. This is one of the most important things you can do, but it can also be one of the most difficult. Fight to control your urge to eat and try to reduce the portion size of your meals. Even using a smaller plate may help as it looks like you have a lot of food on it. Also, as you eat take your time and chew slowly. Don’t rush through your meals! Another good tip is to learn what a portion size is for the different foods you eat. For example, three ounces of meat, fish, chicken, etc. is about the size of the palm of a woman’s hand or a deck of playing cards. An ounce of cheese is about the size of your thumb. Find out a portion size and it will help you with weight loss.

One of the most used ingredients in our food is sugar. And most people have too much of it in their diets. Try to avoid it as much as possible, and remember many fruits have it so why not get it naturally. If you do have difficulty controlling your appetite and you want to snack, make it a healthy snack. But again, don’t go overboard. You have to control the amount of food intake on a daily basis to achieve weight loss. Another of the weight loss tips that is ignored by many people is to avoid fried foods. You’ll be amazed at how following this tip will help you lose weight.

One last piece of very good information. And this one if so important but can be one of the most difficult weight loss tips to follow. Exercise! It not only helps with weight loss but it is helps keep our entire body working properly. If you think you don’t have the time to exercise now, them down the road you’ll have to make time to correct the health problems that may develop. Make the time now to exercise in some way. Good luck with your weight loss plan.

Foods That Make You Lose Weight

Weight Loss Foods

It is a known fact that overweight problems are very often rooted in health issues such as thyroid malfunctions or hormone imbalance, yet food remains the number one enemy of the perfect shape. There are a number of foods that make you lose weight and anyone can learn about them. Weight loss using the right foods will help you if it is great health and a fantastic shape you are seeking as many of them actively help the reduction of body fat formation. Weight loss foods do not have to be mundane because that is the surest way for someone to become bored and stop eating healthily.

Some foods that make you lose weight include dishes that contain certain vegetables like cabbage, Brussels, peas, lentils and of course pasta can be regular additions to main meals. Any spaghetti meal that has tomato sauce is going to be good for you and if you want to add some meat to go with it then why not the low fat, low cholesterol veal. Many meals highlight the combination of steamed white fish and vegetables a healthy low calorie option and you can even add mashed potatoes to this mix without worrying about calories. Other foods like yoghurt, porridge oats, rice (providing it is dark) and even low fat sweet cheese can be used successfully in a weight loss diet.

Many fruits are also included among foods that make you lose weight while providing many essential minerals and nutrients but they are also good for the health of the metabolism. Water melon, strawberries and kiwi pass all the tests of weight loss food as well. Grapes are often the fist fruit of choice when visiting a sick friend in hospital and there is good reason for this as they are very healthy but fruits to avoid owing to their higher calorie count are bananas and figs. As for vegetables, cucumbers, tomatoes, celery and lettuce are among the favorites when it comes to long-term dietary plans.

You will notice that at no point have cakes, chocolates or any type of junk food been mentioned here as foods that make you lose weight. They are more than likely responsible for your weight gain. Some manufacturers that do not want to lose their customers to health alternatives have managed to produce low-fat versions of many favorites like low-fat ice-cream, cookies, mayonnaise and even dark chocolate but there are many others. It would be unfair to exclude everything that is nice from your weight loss diet but you should check the ingredients labels carefully on these products before you start using them.

Healthy Weight Loss After Pregnancy

Women are always looking for healthy weight loss after pregnancy. One question all women want answered is how quickly they can look forward to having their old shape and weight back after pregnancy. What is certain is she will lose upwards of 14 pounds during the first 14 days after birth as the weight of the baby, amniotic fluid, placenta and other fluid is taken into account.

After the baby is born the uterus gradually reverts to its original size and hormone levels which have been elevated during the pregnancy will also gradually reduce so any additional weight also begins to disappear and bear in mind that around 7 pounds of fat are added when a woman is pregnant. Energy is stored in this excess fat ready for breast feeding the baby but how quickly each woman loses weight is dependent on factors like genetics, the mother’s health, how much exercise they get and the type of food they eat.

You should expect that it will take a little bit of time to lose the weight you gained during pregnancy because it did after all take you nine months to put that weight on although many women have been successful with healthy weight loss in just a few short months after a delivery. Often the last few pounds are the hardest to lose and that may be because the body often holds onto a little weight to ensure the baby has sufficient milk but even this is not a certainty as every woman experiences this differently.

Fortunately our knowledge of nutrition has progressed and used properly with an exercise plan in place there shouldn’t be any reason why the weight won’t come off in time. The truth is that a large proportion of mothers will in fact have their old weight and figure back within that first year if they maintain a good exercise regime and healthy diet. However, some women will lose their pregnancy weight in as little as six to twelve weeks.

It is generally understood that after giving birth most women’s bodies make considerable adjustments; these adjustments can make healthy weight loss after pregnancy quite difficult. In order to lose weight after pregnancy both safely, and effectively; a new mother should undertake a program of slow and steady dieting along with exercise that will produce long-term beneficial results.

One aspect that must be considered is the health of the mother and baby as additional fat during the breast feeding stage is used to provide extra energy. A feeding mother may take upwards of six months for the hormone and metabolic rate to return to normal but for some people the changes they experience end up being permanent.

The initial weight loss after birth of around fourteen pounds will just about put a dent in the total of up to thirty five pounds in weight that was gained during the pregnancy.

With perhaps another twenty pounds or more to lose the mother should follow the previous steps and attempt to have healthy weight loss slowly but steadily within the following six to eight months.

Herbal Weight Loss

Is The Popularity of Herbal Weight Loss Products a Good Thing?

The problem with the recent popularity in herbal weight loss products is the number of them that manufacturers are producing just makes it difficult for people to decide which ones they really need. Probably the most well known of these products are pretty much household names like Guarana, Hoodia, dandelion, extract of green tea and the slightly lesser know cascara. The way this works is by telling the brain of the user that they are not hungry and has helped local populations when the pangs of hunger were upon them.

Most people are aware of the properties of caffeine which is the main ingredient of Guarana, the plant of which originates in Brazil but it also works as a diuretic as well. Some people find that the side effects of this herbal weight loss product are not worth the use though as feeling dizzy, an increase in blood pressure, feelings of anxiety and sickness are not uncommon.

One particular herbal weight loss product that has been used for many years is dandelion which also has a diuretic effect which is not too much of a problem although some allergic reactions to its use have been reported. Dandelion is very effective for people who need to lower the amount of fluid they retain but generally speaking this is not the answer to long term weight loss.

Another method of getting rid of toxins from the body is by using the laxative cascara which will also help with weight control. This is not a supplement that should be taken for a long period as the loss of necessary fluids and other nutrients form the system can be harmful.

Green tea extract is probably the most popular yet safe herbal weight loss supplement and appears in vitamins, energy drinks and even in concentrated pill form. Healthy eating and exercise play a large part in weight loss but studies have shown that green tea does help when used as part of this weight control regime.

Despite the large sums of money spent by people on natural weight loss products, there is still little proof that they are effective in the long term. Unfortunately the likes of Hoodia is rare and now protected so if you are fortunate enough to find a reputable dealer you may have to spend around fifty dollars a month to use this and many people believe that natural weight loss supplements are more about ensuring your wallet loses weight. If you are serious about shedding the pounds then you need to look at your diet and exercise level as well as how many herbal weight loss products you use.

Weight Loss Pills

Hidden Dangers of Weight Loss Pills

Being overweight is no laughing matter because it affects your health plus your self esteem and the longer you stay overweight the more damage is done to your body. Of course the bigger you are the more the heart has too work to make sure the blood is pumped around the system and with all the fat and sugary foods that are being consumed, it is no surprise that diabetes is also on the increase.

While weight loss pills at first seem the ideal way to lose weight easily, there are some hidden dangers that need discussing. One of the constituents of some diet pills is amphetamines which can pose a danger if there are already health issues to consider.

There are a number of side effects some of which can be serious especially if a heart or blood pressure problem exists. Diet pills also tend to have a laxative and diuretic effect and it is well documented how excessive diarrhea and urination can lead to dehydration, dry skin, increased thirst and the most dangerous of these side effects, electrolyte imbalance.

On the face of it many people are willing to take the risk not realizing that when the electrolyte level drops owing to the laxative effect of the diet pills, many essential chemicals and nutrients responsible for the health of the heart are lost and not replaced quick enough. Addiction to weight loss pills is not uncommon and over time larger doses are required but dependency will follow until a person cannot live on a daily basis without them.

So as you can see, taking weight loss pills is not always the best solution to your weight problem and the best way to lose weight is to follow a diet program but not just any program, but one that will give you the option to choose a variety of healthy foods. Learning how to eat sensibly and knowing when to stop eating is the key to losing the weight and keeping it off just as frequent small meals throughout the day will increase your metabolic rate thereby burning more calories.

Where possible, steer clear of drinks that contain high levels of sugar and drink more, clean, pure water which help keep your system healthy and aid weight loss. Weight loss should be viewed as an ongoing project and not a quick fix problem so eating a healthy diet that suits your tastes will make the diet program easier to maintain.

The maintenance of any given plan is essential as many people forget everything they have learned and once they shed the weight, fall into bad habits and pile the weight back on. Choosing the right weight loss program may require some study but surely if it works and keeps working then it will be worth the effort and will mean that the weight loss pills will not be needed. Often rapid weight loss leads to rapid weight gain so be happy to lose weight slowly and you will probably find your system will adapt more readily and the weight will stay off.

Weight Loss Programs

A Comparison of Weight Loss Programs

For anyone who has searched the Internet for weight loss programs, I am sure that they were amazed by the number of programs available. It seems that almost anyone who has lost some weight has put together their own program. Although there are many different theories as to the best way to achieve weight loss, some actually do work quite effectively. Before you decide which one is best for you, make sure you do some research. It will help you decide and it will surly help you avoid disappointment by choosing an ineffective program.

In an effort to compare various weight loss programs, some doctors make the study of these programs an important part of their research. In 2005, Michael Dansinger, an MD from Tufts University, conducted a trial that compared the effectiveness of 4 popular weight loss programs:- Atkins, Zone, Weight Watchers, and Ornish. 160 participants aged between 22 years and 72 years with a mean BMI of 35 were randomly assigned to one of the 4 weight loss programs. The Atkins Diet was carbohydrate restricted, the Zone was macro nutrient balanced, the weight watchers diet was calorie restricted and the Ornish was fat restricted. The participants followed a supervised program for 2 months and then were left to follow the diet on their own. Unfortunately 22% left the study after 2 months. Each group had a modest increase of exercise throughout the trial.

When studies such as this are done the results may be questioned by others depending on how they view particular programs or how detailed the study actually was. For this particular study the overall results showed that all 4 weight loss programs had a measure of success depending on the level of adherence. The trial concluded that there was evidence to suggest that there was not one diet to suit all types. By the end of the trial more people had dropped out of the Ornish and the Atkins suggesting that many people found these weight loss programs too extreme and therefore more difficult to stick to. Perhaps if the participants had been able to choose which program to follow the results may have been better.

Those of us who have tried to achieve weight loss in the past know that what works for some people may not necessarily work for someone else. Also, there are so many variables that can’t be controlled that when studies are conducted great care must be taken to ensure all participants follow the same regime. The fact that one diet doesn’t suit all is a vital piece in the weight loss puzzle. We all have different metabolic rates and different ways of processing our food. If we know what these differences are then we can choose a weight loss program that can be closely matched to our specific needs.

One finding seems to stand out: if you want to lose weight you have to realize that it takes time. Therefore, a short weight loss program most likely will not be very effective, especially at maintaining weight loss. Any weight loss program will only be successful if the participant follows it properly 98% of the time. We all have our 2% lapses but the answer is to get back on the diet as soon as possible. It is also essential to realize that permanent changes need to be made if the weight loss program results are to be maintained

Can Stress Levels Affect Weight Loss?

Most of us in today’s fast paced society have too much stress in our lives. We worry about too many things, and usually things we have no control over. The disturbing thing about stress is that it can have very serious consequences on our health if we do not learn how to reduce it. Also, if we have a weight problem stress can affect our ability to actually lose weight. In fact, unchecked stress can be a reason for weight gain. If you are on a weight loss program and have too much stress in your life it can be interfering with your success.

Our bodies react to many stimuli every day. When good things happen we react in a certain way, just as our bodies will react differently in a bad or stressful situation. Our bodies do this automatically without any conscious intervention on our part. So it is with stress. Research has shown that constant chronic stress triggers a hormone called cortisol in your body. Cortisol is often referred to as the stress hormone because your adrenal glands start pumping it out when you’re under stress. On a good day cortisol helps to regulate blood pressure, cardiovascular function and metabolism. But when stress levels rise and then stay there, your body is flooded with cortisol constantly. As a result your immune system suffers, your blood pressure rises and your belly gets fatter and fatter.

How many people do you know with a fat belly? You know, the “beer belly” as it is called by many. Why do people get this fat belly? For some of us it seems to be the only place the fat heads for! The main reason for this is that cortisol stimulates your appetite and signals your body to start storing fat. This fat is stores in your belly as your belly loves cortisol. So basically, no weight loss plan is likely to work if you don’t reduce your stress and cortisol levels first.

Back to the stress in our lives. The encouraging news is that some scientists research the affects of stress on our bodies and they have identified a number of factors that indicates if we are under too much stress. So what are the signs of a stressful life? Well a good example is chronic back pain or neck pain. Another symptom is often digestive problems. The good news is that stress induced belly fat is not that difficult to lose. Get rid of just a little bit of your stress and weight loss will start to happen very quickly. Stress fighting foods can have a dramatic effect on your overall stress levels as can moderate exercise and freeing yourself of accumulated guilt.

As with anything, no matter what it is, there are always misconceptions. It’s amazing why people do not try to find out information for themselves rather than just listening to what others have to say. This is especially true with weight loss. For years many old wives tales (and some new ones) have dominated peoples thinking. At the end of the day most weight loss facts have quite a deep scientific/physiological background. They are logical and make far more sense when you really look into the meaning behind them.

Stress has become a very important topic in the world of health and wellness. It can be related to many serious health problems such as heart attacks and strokes. There is no simple answer so it is worth considering the other aspects that need to be taken into consideration. Stress certainly has a negative effect on the body in a general sense so it is not too difficult to believe that it may have an effect on the body’s ability to gain belly fat. weight loss is about unearthing these gems of information so that we can use them to our advantage.

Natural Weight Loss

author Posted by: Stewart Anderson on date Oct 5th, 2008 | filed Filed under: lose weight, weight loss

The Wisest Weight Loss Plan may be a Natural Weight Loss Plan.

A wise approach for natural weight loss is to ensure your calorific intake meets your physical activity levels. Obviously this is not as easy as it seems because the number of overweight American citizens is increasing with over a third of the population affected. Despite this, most of these overweight people want to be trim again although it is probably more for cosmetic reasons than those related to their health.

The strange thing is though that it is so much easier to stay trim than it is to lose weight because as soon as you start putting on weight, many things become more difficult. Even though many people know this subconsciously very few actually plan to ensure that weight gain doesn’t happen to them.

Studies have shown that it is more likely a person who has lost weight using a calorie controlled diet, even if they actually enjoyed it, are more likely to go back to their old eating habits at some point. The simple fact is this; the longer you ignore natural weight loss programs and stay overweight, the more likely you are to have health problems.

There is a large number of health conditions associated with weight gain and the greater the increase in body weight the more that problems occur. Losing weight by natural means isn’t a big secret and deep down most of us understand the principles behind it.

Maintaining a natural weight loss regime means sticking to low fat meals that are high in fiber and contain complex carbohydrates with a moderate amount of protein. If you were looking at a meal then this would be a baked potato (carbohydrate), the vegetables would be the fiber and a little meat, is the protein.

Dietitians also say that the body has a capacity to retain dietary fat more than calories for regular foods so weight gain is more likely. Another problem is the obsession with fat free or low fat foods that food manufactures are stacking the shelves with which despite their popularity are not stopping the problem of obesity.

The misconception is if you are eating something fat-free then you won’t be adding extra fat to your body but all food contains calories, just not always in the form of fat. This is a trap that many people fall into and forget it’s about eating from the correct food groups, and if you have to snack make it a small healthy one.

Health experts say it would be better to try eating every three to four hours, which may mean a nutritious low-fat snack between lunch and dinner. This is a subject that will continue to be debated for some time but natural weight loss is possible and should not be looked upon as a lost cause.
