Healthy Weight Loss

For anyone wanting or needing to lose some extra pounds, one of the most important factors to keep in mind is to be sure your plan is one that encourages healthy weight loss. It is so easy to follow the latest fad diets because everyone else is doing it or because it is a #1 best seller at the book store. But if it doesn’t promote a healthy plan then don’t put yourself at risk. Our bodies are delicate yet complicated and they can be easily harmed if we do not take care of them.

Sometimes we fail to use our common sense when we do things, and when it comes to diets it seems that many people forget about this altogether. Healthy Weight Loss is basically dependant on a list of “Dos and Don’ts”. The problem is that there are so many people out there offering their opinion on what we should and shouldn’t do to lose weight and many of them who “think” they know, are actually giving you false information. Here is my list of well some researched healthy weight loss tips. I hope you find them helpful

Some of the “don’ts” for healthy weight loss…….

DON’T be fooled by the latest fad diet. If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

DON’T let others tell you what’s right for you. You need to lose weight for yourself.

DON’T forget that although calories count, it is no use counting calories and not taking sensible account of the need to eat healthy weight reducing foods.

Don’t reduce you calories too low as your body will think it is in starvation mode and reduce your metabolism.

DON’T go it alone. Get support from others.

DON’T drink your calories – eat them. Solid food provides greater satisfaction and provides the body with what it needs to function optimally.

DON’T set unrealistic goals. You should expect to lose about 1-2 pounds per week. That is realistic.

DON’T get distracted. Losing weight takes time.

Some of the “do’s” for healthy weight loss……

DO choose to eat healthy, wholesome foods from all of the food groups. Get the essential nutrients you need, whilst making appropriate choices for weight loss.

DO eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, to ensure there is plenty of fibre in your diet.

DO monitor your progress. Weighing yourself once a week and taking your measurements. Measurements can often be a better indicator of progress

DO exercise. Anything more than what you’re doing now is a plus, but a personally tailored exercise regime will show results much quicker.

DO eat a protein rich breakfast every day.

DO learn positive coping skills so that you don’t turn to food for comfort.

DO drink at least six 8oz.glasses of water every day.

DO eat enough food to satisfy you. Starvation is not the way forward

DO benefit from the experience of others who have successfully lost weight and maintained their weight loss

If you take the time you can find many healthy weight loss tips. One of the best places is your doctor. Visit one of your local gyms and ask for some tips there, although it may cost you some money. And the Internet is certainly full of tips, but be careful as some of the tips may have no scientific validation. I hope you are successful in your efforts to lose weight.

Fast Weight Loss: Should You Use Pills?

Not long ago there was not much attention paid to the weight issue when it came to young people and children. It wasn’t considered a problem then. The problem of being over weight was considered an adult problem, because most people believed that an overweight child would lose that weight as they “grew up”. That was so far from reality and now we are faced with an ever growing number of children that are seriously over weight. People now want fast weight loss plans to reverse this trend and they are sometimes taking steps that are not in the best interests of their health.

There is no doubt that some action has to be taken regarding the weight issue and how it affects so many in our society. Eventually a decision to do something about the excess weight must be made and those that are serious about it will finally realize that you cannot employ short term methods. Losing weight should be viewed as a long term health benefit and the use of weight loss pills to induce fast weight loss is not necessarily the best course of action.

How do these drugs actually work? What happens inside our bodies and are there any long term affects that may endanger our future health? In effect, these drugs usually work buy telling the brain it is no longer hungry and stimulating the metabolic rate to aid the shedding of calories. The problem arose when it was found after studies that one of the side effects from this type of drug was the increased risk of heart valve disease and of course it was quickly withdrawn from use. Not to be defeated though, manufacturers have introduced updated drugs, prescribed by doctors but the FDA approval process is slow.

Those in the weight loss industry know how to sell their products. They are in business to make money and millions are spent on weight loss products each year. These weight loss pills have become popular and you can almost guarantee that you will be aware of someone who has tried them with success. The idea that a simple drug can change everything without the need to change the diet or sacrificing anything is very tempting. As a consequence, drug companies spend millions of dollars in research on weight loss pills while consumers spend even more to buy the pills, usually hoping for fast weight loss.

Many weight loss pills do not even need to be prescribed by a doctor. That is amazing considering some of the health concerns that have been brought to light by some researchers who have conducted studies on the use of such pills. Some weight loss pills can be purchased either over-the-counter or prescribed by a doctor but even with the advances in medical technology, these drugs can still cause a lot of health related problems which can be unpleasant such as diarrhea and vomiting. Other harmful side effects such as tightness in the chest and urinary tract problems and fatal such as a stroke and an overdose of the diet pills can cause tremors, confusion, hallucinations, shallow breathing, renal failure even heart attack and convulsions.

If you feel that it is in your best interests to use some sort of weight loss pill do some research on your own. Also, before taking any type of pill be sure to check with your doctor as there are many factors that could contribute to any problems you experience but it does not stop even when you cease taking the pills. These effects can be equally unpleasant in the same way that weight control pills are, like irritability, vomiting, depression, fatigue and insomnia to name only a few of the reported conditions. With so many side effects, maybe fast weight loss is not the answer.

Pills may provide some fast weight loss but at some cost. There are many concerns by some researchers who do not agree with the use of weight loss pills. However, despite all the bad publicity, some weight loss pills do work but there is a better chance if they are used in conjunction with a low calorie diet and regular exercise, preferably using a properly worked out exercise regime. A low calorie diet would consist of meals that contain vitamins, minerals and fiber which are all essential for good health; the best source is fruit and vegetables.

Lose Weight

For those of us who have to lose weight it can sometimes be a very discouraging journey. Why is maintaining a healthy weight such a problem for so many people and yet for others it is not even an issue. And we all know someone who can eat just about anything and never put on one extra pound, while some of us put on weight just looking at food. There are many different factors that come into play when one is trying to lose weight and to be successful we have to have the personal commitment that will get us to our goals.

We need to eat to survive, and what we eat and how much we eat plays the most important role in our lives. Think about some of the foods we eat. They are so processed that most of the natural nutrients have been removed, and this certainly does not help the situation. Fast foods and a more sedentary lifestyle are responsible for more and more people becoming seriously overweight and needing to lose weight. More and more young people are being diagnosed as obese, and degenerative illnesses are becoming more prevalent amongst obese adults.

As you are aware, more and more younger children are developing weight related problems. It is a reflection of our society and the life styles we have developed. There are many health problems resulting from being over weight. Obesity can lead to type 11 diabetes and heart disease and bad eating habits that develop in childhood are contributing to this growing trend amongst young people. They need to be taught how to lose weight now before the problem escalates. And also before it is too late.

The responsibility of parents for keeping their children healthy with regards to weight seems to have been lost somewhere along the way. One would think that as parents we know what our young children should be eating to be healthy. In the early years parents have control on what their children eat. Unfortunately many parents have bad dietary habits themselves and so these habits are passed on to their children. They are also more inclined to give in to their children’s whims and fancies regarding food, which then develop life long poor eating habits. It is any wonder that as adults we have so much difficulty trying to lose weight?

We all like to reward good behavior displayed by our children. However, as parents one of the biggest mistakes we make is to reward our children with food. Too many parents and other adults mistakenly believe that children need or deserve sweets or sweet treats. For those of us who want or need to lose weight, sweets are certainly not going to help. What they don’t seem to realize is that there are many healthy snacks and treats that you can give your child. Grapes and small pieces of fruit are popular with young children and dried fruit and nuts are also a good alternative to sweet treats.

Habits are very difficult to break. For some reason we seem to have little difficulty developing habits because most of the time we are not even aware of the fact that we are forming a habit. The habits we form are difficult to change. If our children grow up eating the wrong foods it will be one of the most difficult changes they will have to make. Children who need to lose weight do not have the benefit of healthy dietary habits to fall back on consequently they will find it very difficult to lose weight. All children should be encouraged to have a well balanced healthy diet with the correct balance of protein, fat and carbohydrate. They should also be encouraged to exercise more and take part in physical activities rather than engage in the more sedentary activities in front of the computer. Does your child need to learn how to lose weight? Help is available if you are unsure how to proceed
