Why is maintaining a healthy weight such a problem for so many people and yet for others it is not even an issue. And we all know someone who can eat just about anything and never put on one extra pound, while some of us put on weight just looking at food. There are many different factors that come into play when one is trying to lose weight and to be successful we have to have the personal commitment that will get us to our goals.<br />

We need to eat to survive, and what we eat and how much we eat plays the most important role in our lives. Think about some of the foods we eat. They are so processed that most of the natural nutrients have been removed, and this certainly does not help the situation. Fast foods and a more sedentary lifestyle are responsible for more and more people becoming seriously overweight and needing to lose weight. More and more young people are being diagnosed as obese, and degenerative illnesses are becoming more prevalent amongst obese adults.<br />

As you are aware, more and more younger children are developing weight related problems. It is a reflection of our society and the life styles we have developed. There are many health problems resulting from being over weight. Obesity can lead to type 11 diabetes and heart disease and bad eating habits that develop in childhood are contributing to this growing trend amongst young people. The responsibility of parents for keeping their children healthy with regards to weight seems to have been lost somewhere along the way. Unfortunately many parents have bad dietary habits themselves and so these habits are passed on to their children. They are also more inclined to give in to their children&#8217;s whims and fancies regarding food, which then develop life long poor eating habits. We all like to reward good behavior displayed by our children. However, as parents one of the biggest mistakes we make is to reward our children with food. Too many parents and other adults mistakenly believe that children need or deserve sweets or sweet treats. For those of us who want or need to lose weight, sweets are certainly not going to help. What they don&#8217;t seem to realize is that there are many healthy snacks and treats that you can give your child. Grapes and small pieces of fruit are popular with young children and dried fruit and nuts are also a good alternative to sweet treats.<br />

Habits are very difficult to break. For some reason we seem to have little difficulty developing habits because most of the time we are not even aware of the fact that we are forming a habit. The habits we form are difficult to change. If our children grow up eating the wrong foods it will be one of the most difficult changes they will have to make. Children who need to  lose weight do not have the benefit of healthy dietary habits to fall back on consequently they will find it very difficult to lose weight. All children should be encouraged to have a well balanced healthy diet with the correct balance of protein, fat and carbohydrate. They should also be encouraged to exercise more and take part in physical activities rather than engage in the more sedentary activities in front of the computer. It is probably so difficult because to have successful weight loss one must change their eating habits, and as most of us know, this is no easy task.<br />

It is harder than ever to resist the temptation. The food industry have also jumped on the band wagon with their many culinary delights to tempt our taste buds. Just how serious is the weight problem in our society? Between $50 billion  and $90 billion are spent each year on products and services to lose weight, including diet foods and drinks, slimming clubs and centers, and surgery to name but a few.<br />

As you can see there is a very large amount of money being spent by people to find the best way to lose weight. For some this search never ends as they go from one program to another. And despite the fact that all this money is spent on an annual basis the weight loss problem refuses to go away. So why are we getting such poor results from the various methods employed to help people to lose weight.<br />

We are all well aware that many of the processed foods we eat do not contain the nutrients our body needs. Many of the products available on our supermarket shelves will say low sugar or sugar free. Health problems begin to develop and if they are not addressed there will be dire consequences. The Internet is a wealth of information, but you have to be wary of the source. Without a doubt there is some information that is simply untrue. There is so much misleading information around on weight loss that it is no wonder there is total confusion. The sooner people realise that they will not lose weight permanently on a fad diet that either concentrates on one food, promises amazing weight loss in 7 days or suggests that you need to cut calories to lose weight, the sooner people will stop asking &#8220;<B>Why can&#8217;t I lose weight</B>&#8220;?<br />

Most people that attempt to lose weight, don&#8217;t understand how the body works. They fail to learn how the body functions with regards to weight gain and weight loss. It seems to me that the majority of people who have a chronic weight problem have been doing something wrong. They have either been eating the wrong foods or simply eating too much and probably too late in the day.  Anyone who thinks that they can lose weight by embarking on a fad diet that is far from being a well balanced nutritious regime is just fooling themselves. It is vital that all the  people who are saying &#8220;<B>why can&#8217;t I lose weight</B>?&#8221; realize, first and foremost, that a healthy well balanced nutritious diet is the only way to proceed, not just for their immediate weight lose regime, but for life.<br />

When a person tries a program that does give immediate results, they are given a sense of false security. Rapid weight loss is detrimental to your health and is unlikely ever to be sustained. Consuming low levels of calories as suggested by some diet regimes is basically a semi starvation diet and can cause loss of muscle from our organs including our heart. This is not a sensible plan.<br />

When you do choose a weight loss program, be sure to do some research on it. Don&#8217;t accept the plan as the truth until you can find out how the program actually works. Always look for the scientific evidence to back up any diet you may choose to follow. And remember it is physiologically impossible to lose more than 2lb of fat a week. Any diet promising more than that is lying. You may however lose more weight than 2lb but it won&#8217;t be fat. It will either be water or muscle and most importantly your body will not be able to sustain that weight loss when you return to normal eating. There are a number of side effects some of which can be serious especially if a heart or blood pressure problem exists. Also, if we have a weight problem stress can affect our ability to actually lose weight. In fact, unchecked stress can be a reason for weight gain. If you are on a weight loss program and have too much stress in your life it can be interfering with your success.<br />

Our bodies react to many stimuli every day. When good things happen we react in a certain way, just as our bodies will react differently in a bad or stressful situation. Our bodies do this automatically without any conscious intervention on our part. So it is with stress. Research has shown that constant chronic stress triggers a hormone called cortisol in your body. Cortisol is often referred to as the stress hormone because your adrenal glands start pumping it out when you&#8217;re under stress. On a good day cortisol helps to regulate blood pressure, cardiovascular function and metabolism. But when stress levels rise and then stay there, your body is flooded with cortisol constantly. Another often forgotten problem is the amount of soft and fizzy drinks that are consumed containing huge amounts of sugar, which need to be reduced and replaced with clean drinking water which will also aid any weight loss regime. If you view losing weight as a long term project and finding a diet plan that suits your individual tastes then your commitment to it will be much greater and the results far better.<br />

Generally, after losing weight people get into bad habits and it is very easy to put all the weight, and often more, back on so a certain level of commitment is required and weight loss pills are not the easy answer. Choosing the right weight loss program may require some study but surely if it works and keeps working then it will be worth the effort and will mean that the weight loss pills will not be needed. The weight loss industry has grown in leaps and bounds over the last few years. We have become a more health conscious society, yet at the same time, we are also becoming what some consider is a &#8220;sickly&#8221; society. There is no question the weight loss is now a very, very big business. The number of companies that produce and market health and wellness products is climbing each year. Unfortunately due to the fact that there are many fad diets out there that promise unrealistic results, many desperate dieters will find themselves constantly moving from one diet to another to find the one that offers then lasting success.<br />
<P><br />
It would be a safe assumption to make to say that you or someone you know has tried a number of different diets in an attempt to lose weight. Some refer to this as being a <B>weight loss </B>yoyo-er or compare it to a roller coaster ride, up and down with your weight. Do you lose weight only to put it back on again time after time? Perhaps you even put more weight on than before and your weight is gradually creeping up higher and higher and you don&#8217;t know what to do about it. Well it may help you to know that you are not alone in this and weight loss yoyo-ers are on the increase.<br />
<P><br />
Some in the health field believe that constantly losing and gaining weight can be harmful for your body. Once you get into this cycle of weight off &#8211; weight on, your body, not surprisingly, becomes confused. Once upon a time your body had a set point, a weight that was the norm for you. With repeated weight gain followed by weight loss followed by weight gain etc. etc.,  your body is constantly changing that set point until it is at a higher rate than you would like it to be. It can then be very difficult to attain the weight loss you so desire. Your body plateaus and any further weight loss seems like an impossibility. When this happens we often we get frustrated and disheartened and give up on the weight loss diet thinking it isn&#8217;t working. This inevitably results in our weight starting to increase once again to an unacceptable level.<br />
<P><br />
Our set-point is very important if we are to lose weight and maintain that loss. Our body at one time could regulate this particular set point and keep our weight at, or at least near, an acceptable level. So what can you do to  re-regulate your set point? First and foremost, it is important to realize that you are going to have to be far more persistent in your approach to weight loss. One of the reasons you find it difficult to sustain your weight loss is because your adrenal glands have become exhausted. Very often when you have been on a <B>weight loss </B>diet  month after month, perhaps not following a well structured diet, maybe cutting calories or missing meals or eating too many carbohydrates, your body is constantly in a fight or flight state. This situation will inevitably leave you tired confusing your metabolism and encouraging it to turn to stimulants such as tea, coffee, and diet drinks as a pick me up to compensate for what may well have been an energy deficient diet. Unfortunately this just activates the sympathetic nervous system to release more stress hormones which in turn requires more stimulants and so the cycle goes on and weight loss becomes less and less likely. This vicious circle can be almost impossible to break without professional help.<br />
<P><br />
With so many fad diets and other programs on the market, people can easily become confused as to which plan they should use. If you want to know if your weight loss plan is a good one then it needs to have a good scientific explanation so that you are certain it is going to work to not only help you to lose weight but also the gain health. Many people who have been on a &#8220;not so healthy&#8221; <B>weight loss</B> diet will inevitably have lost some muscle as well as fat. As muscle burns energy this will not help your weight loss regime as a decreased muscle mass means a lower metabolic rate. Yet another vicious cycle your body has to find a way to break. This increases your chances gaining weight rather than losing weight and so the yoyo effect continues.<br />
<P><br />
Our health is a very serious issue and we must learn to take care of our body. It&#8217;s the only one we&#8217;ll ever have! And our weight is one of the most important aspects of our health. Being over weight is not something to &#8220;play&#8221; with. Your future health is dependant on you losing weight so take your diet seriously. If weight loss has been an issue for you for many years then it would be advisable to get the advice and support of a professional weight loss coach who can monitor your progress. You need to be patient and remember it has probably taken you many years to become over weight particularly if you have been a weight loss yoyo-er, so it is likely take time to crack the cycle and achieve permanent weight loss. Remember also that tackling your weight loss problem also means that you are improving your overall health.<br />

I&#8217;m sure you or some one you know has tried to lose weight at one time or another. It can become quite confusing with so many different <A HREF="http://healthy-weight-loss-programs.net">weight loss</A> programs and diets available. You almost have to be a nutritionist to understand them and then make a decision on which one to follow. <B>Weight loss</B> has become such a complex issue. Diet has always been thought to be the most important part of any dietary regime. However very few will disagree that exercise is also an important part of a weight loss program. Exercise also has a secondary benefit, not only does it help us get rid of those extra pounds but it helps improve our overall health. So what really takes place in the body when we exercise? What changes occur and how does our body processes work together to achieve these benefits?<br />
<P><br />
We all know too well how easy it is to put on those extra pounds. For most of us it takes a great amount of personal discipline to control or change our eating habits. After all, eating is the only way we can put on those extra pounds. If we can control what we eat and how much we are well on the way to losing weight. When we eat any food we are consuming calories and we also at the same time we  burn up calories as we go through our daily routines. If our daily activities burn less calories than we take in, then we are going to gain weight. If we do  not have enough physical activity in our normal routine of life, then we must find a way to burn more calories. Exercise is the most efficient way to do this. But exercise not only burns off calories as we are doing the exercising, it also has a very important after effect beneficial in anyones attempt to achieve <B>weight loss</B>.<br />
<P><br />
Although many of us can quickly get to hate doing exercise, we realize that it will help us in our efforts to lose weight and maintain that loss. Exercise raises the metabolism, the body&#8217;s mechanism for burning calories. What happens is that by raising our metabolism we not only burn more calories as we exercise, but the body continues to burn calories for a period even after we finish exercising. It&#8217;s like our body knows what is best for us, so it continues to work a little overtime to help us with <B>weight loss</B>. Exercise gives us that feel good factor, but it feels better knowing that our body&#8217;s continues to burn calories for a period after we have finished exercising.<br />
<P><br />
Our bodies are made up of different tissues, and if you are planning to lose some weight you will be concerned with muscle tissue and fat. The muscle tissue in our bodies plays an important role in how we expend energy. Muscles use up energy and burn off the calories/fat. Even when we are at rest our muscles will be using energy, thus burning calories. However, we know that it certainly isn&#8217;t enough to lose weight or all we would have to do is sleep. While muscle tissue burns calories, the opposite is true of fat tissue. Fat cells store calories. As you can see there is an intrinsic link between muscles and fat?<br />
<P><br />
Many people do not think of this relationship when they begin a weight loss program. Most are just determined to get rid of some excess fat. However, one uses calories and the other stores calories. More muscle means burning more fat, and therefore there are  less calories to be stored in our fat cells. Since our muscles need energy, the more muscle tissue we have the faster our metabolism runs. The faster our metabolism runs the more calories we burn up. The more calories we burn off the more <A HREF="http://healthy-weight-loss-programs.net">weight loss</A> we achieve. If we look at this sort of physiological information it should help us to understand the intricacies of how to lose weight. So why not take time to learn how the body works and what will help you achieve sustained weight loss. This way you will know why it is necessary to exercise as part of your regime<br />
